Types of die and mold(mould)
Molds (or moulds) and dies are used to make a variety of objects with many different media. For instance, plastic plumbing pipes can be made in a mold; tools such as wrenches are cast in dies. Molds tend to be used to produce products that need to be hollow in the middle, whereas dies are used to stamp solid products out of media such as steel. We'll introduce you to the definition, processing, and mold types.
Plastic mold
Plastic mold can be understood as “mold that is made of plastic”, such as plastic mold for concrete products, or silicone mold for biscuits, candy, etc.
The tooling used for plastic injection molding is called a plastic mold or plastic injection mold. Most plastic products are molded by plastic molds.
Plastic molds are divided into two types: thermosetting and thermoplastic mold, according to the molding plastic characteristics.
Plastic mold can also be understood as “plastic injection mold, which is made of steel like P20 or NAK80, a tooling/tool be put into plastic injection molding to produce plastic parts like ABS, PP, POM, Nylon, etc.” If so, plastic molding is the same as “plastic injection molding”
Plastic injection molding is processing to produce injection molded parts from plastic like ABS, PP or POM, etc. Put the plastic material in the hopper/material barrel, and then the plastic is melt and then flow into the plastic injection molding machine, after the plastic is cooled, open the mold, and then the plastic molded parts can be taken out from the mold or the parts can be ejected out automatically.

What kinds of molds are there?
- Plastic Mold: It is used in various plastic products, such as electronics, home appliances, computers, cameras, electrical products, communication equipment, transportation equipment, construction equipment, sanitary equipment, containers, footwear, etc. For all plastic components, plastic molds are required. In recent years The plastic molds used in the electronics, computer and communication industries are the most.
- Stamping Die: For example, most of the products containing metal use stamping dies, and the application range is almost the same as that of plastic molds. Stamping dies.
- Die Casting Mould: Die-casting products of aluminum, zinc and copper such as transportation equipment, electronic and electrical equipment, daily hardware equipment and bathroom equipment parts, among which automobile and locomotive parts are the most used.
- Forging Die: It is widely used in transportation equipment, electronic and electrical equipment, and daily hardware equipment, and its main products are hand tools, automobile and motorcycle parts, bicycles, screws and nuts.
- Extrusion Die: Extrusion dies are mainly used for building materials, such as door and window frames, curtains, heat sinks, and others such as panels and speakers.
- Powder Metallurgy Mold: Commonly used in automobile and motorcycle parts, especially precision gears and daily hardware products.
- Metal or Ceramic Injection Molds: Mix metal powder or ceramic powder with plastic pellets and then inject. It combines the strength characteristics of die-casting and powder metallurgy products, and the advantages of large injection molding volume and stable quality. Therefore, its use is almost the same as that of die-casting molds, powder metallurgy molds, and CNC milling machines to process metal parts, and there is a tendency to replace them.
- Thermosetting Mold: For high current or current insulators, also commonly known as non-melting wire switches, IC packaging molds are usually another option that the rigidity or insulation of general engineering plastics cannot reach.
- Other Molds: For example, glass molds are used in the manufacture of glassware, glass bottles, etc. Rubber molds are used in the manufacture of tires, rubber shoes and sporting goods. Gravity casting molds are used in the manufacture of pistons, motorcycle shock absorbers, and mechanical pulleys. Tungsten carbide molds are used in the manufacture of iron wire, copper wire, wire and cable, copper pipe, steel pipe and other products.
